The Alteo Property Cluster covers some 18,500Ha (9.9% of Mauritius), running from Piton in the North, to Anahita and Domaine Sans Souci in the south. The land is predominantly under sugar cane cultivation (11,250 Ha), and also includes a diversity of other mature landscapes such as approximately 500 Ha of Land Conversion Rights; 1,700 Ha of forest reserves; hunting grounds; scrub land areas industrial areas (sugar factories/ power plants); and the luxury resort destination Anahita.
The Strategic Plan led by me places the East region within the national context, highlighting the global competitiveness of Mauritius; The Plan examines key national initiatives and directions for growth; and potential options for the East region to align itself with and support national objectives for balanced and equitable growth.The relevance of key strategic planning policy and guidance in Mauritius' National Development Strategy and Outline Planning Schemes is considered and applied to Alteo's Strategic options. Transport accessibility of the East is highlighted and further developed, recognising this as arguably the most significant element in realizing balanced and equitable growth and attracting high value investment in the East. Strategic Options across the Alteo Property Cluster are identified and prioritized, updating long held primary strategic concepts for sustainable growth, focusing on clusters of development targeted toward identified growth zones and areas of enhanced accessibility.
